COP29 Kick Off at Baku, Azerbaijan

Baku, Azerbaijan is currently hosting the important COP29 event, continuing a rich history that dates back to the first COP conference in 1995 in Berlin. Over the years, new initiatives and climate actions have become central to the global agenda. The most significant milestone in global climate action was the adoption of the Paris Agreement. Below is a summary of key COP events and their major outcomes:

  • COP21, Paris (2015): Adopted the Paris Agreement, committing all countries to limit global warming.
  • COP22, Marrakech (2016): Initiated the implementation of the Paris Agreement, with a focus on adaptation and finance.
  • COP26, Glasgow (2021): Finalized the Paris Agreement rulebook, including mechanisms for carbon markets.
  • COP27, Sharm El-Sheikh (2022): Focused on climate finance and adaptation, and established a loss and damage fund.
  • COP29, Baku (2024): Ongoing.

We will continue to provide updates on COP29 events, especially as some of our staff are serving as delegates for Malaysia.
